Cell Line Identity – Prevent cell misidentification in your daily lab routine

In this webinar, you will learn about:

  • Cell misidentification – What's that?
  • The causes and consequences of working with the wrong cell line
  • How to choose a cell authentication method?
  • The background of STR amplification and capillary electrophoresis (CE) for successful cell authentication and applying these methods correctly

Summary

In 1951 HeLa cells entered cell culture labs worldwide as the first human cell line. 70 years later, we know that at least 140 cell lines are contaminated with HeLa cells, with dramatic implications on the validity of past cell culture-related research. The fact that at least 535 cell lines are misidentified (ICLAC 2023) reveals a significant need for reliable cell authentication that is increasingly required by scientific journals and auditing authorities.

Here she investigated the response of T cells to infectious diseases such as influenza and HIV. After obtaining her doctoral degree, Simone transferred her knowledge of T cell immunology to the field of cancer and started her position as a Postdoctoral Scientist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. With her several years of experience in Research and being in the wet lab herself, she gained a profound knowledge of culturing primary cells as well as cell lines before she joined Eppendorf in 2022.
